I am Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship in the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin--Madison and Executive Director of the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship. I am also a co-founder of gener8tor, a business accelerator with offices in Madison and Milwaukee, WI.
My published and ongoing empirical research projects involve the study of various aspects of the entrepreneurial process, including firm formation, venture finance, initial public offerings, the relationship between public innovation and commercial entrepreneurship, and the role of information in entrepreneurship. Much of my research involves the study of the formation of commercial software markets for mobile computing platforms including the Palm Handheld Computer. My research collaborators include Scott Shane, Frederic Delmar, Mike Ciuchta, Marc Junkunc, and Mingxiang Li.
On the importance of vision

Start with the customer experience first, and work backwards to the technology.
My favorite thing about startups is that they don't require anyone's permission.
